According to the NY Post, West Coast Legend Snoop Dogg is attempting to develop an American Idol-esq Hip Hop Show that discovers new artists on a large platform. Snoop has pitched the show to various networks already including Oxygen, Bravo, NBC, E! and MTV. The NY Post source says:
"He wants to bring in an old-school legend, and he wants to get Jay-Z.”
Along with Jay-Z, Snoop reportedly wants Wiz Khalifa on board as a judge that he has actually shown interest. No word from any of Wiz' reps and Jay's camp denied any involvement. Snoop went on to explain why he wants to develop a show dedicated to finding new hip hop artists saying:
“The ‘American Idol’ and ‘X Factor’ shows, they’re great shows. But I think I need to make a show like that, that’s directed straight to the hood. To the artists that don’t get the attention, that don’t have the money to make themselves representable. This raw talent and ability.”
Hmm..MTV did a while ago called "Celebrity Rap Superstar", it had a similar premise and was sorta popular, but it was more of a celeb competition show. Snoop has had successful shows in the past on MTV so I don't think finding a network is going to be the hardest part. I think finding a panel of judges that everyone respects is going to be pretty difficult
