Def Jam Finally Gives Frank Ocean "Official" Release Date For "nostalgia, ULTRA"

In a time where great artists, great music and huge popularity is a rare thing in the music industry, you would expect a music label like Def Jam to take notice on a act they already had on their roster since late 2009. In this case they had no clue. Basically, to put in the simplest terms, FRANK OCEAN IS THAT DUDE RIGHT NOW. Frank was signed to Def Jam in Jan of 2010, sat on the label for months, and out of frustration of never getting a release date for a album, he took it into his own hands to record and release the very successful album "nostalgia, ULTRA" via his tumblr page in February. Frank sat down with Complex Magazine last march and explained how is relationship with Def Jam was:

"I signed my paperwork at the end of ‘09. It was official by January 2010. Outside of the contract and the paperwork, there was no relationship. I never walked through the building. I never had an opportunity to build with them, because of some other shit within the company. All I knew was that I was an artist, and I didn’t have a relationship with my label.

Now a days, the 23-year old singer has almost 70,000 followers on twitter, hundreds of thousands of downloads, rave reviews on his album and he is also apart of one of the most controversial/popular groups coming out of El Lay right now, Odd Future (or OFWGKTA). Since all of the success has come along, Def Jam has decided to re-release the album with single "Novacane" dropping on iTunes on May 31 and the whole album heading to stores on July 26.

If you haven't already, Download "nostalgia, ULTRA" right now cause everyone needs it in their life, Thank Me Later.

Although Frank is originally from New Orleans, He gets the EL Lay Times stamp of approval because not only is his album one of the most AMAZING pieces of work I have heard all year, but he is also apart of a movement that's going on the West Coast right now and that's basically all I need :-)
